At $20 a cup this better be mighty fine tea. This is a great story however and agriculture score for the Big Island.

This is pretty exciting news for the Big Island and this couple. They are genius. Anyone feel like growing some tea here? lol

Time to get your hands and knees dirty Js..
Thar's Tea in them Thar hills...

I'd have to move to higher ground indeed but if this tea sells for $5000 a pound I could make the sacrifice. It looks like I'm growing the wrong kind of plants and I have some beauties. I keep growing cutting from my Pudica Plumeria but they are only worth about $10 each for tiny ones. The ones I have that are more mature could bring me $25 each. I think I'd better seriously think about growing tea! I'll send you a tea bag of it. lol

Hello JS and Par 4, I was just having Tea, after supper when I read your seed, a Salada orange pekeo at $7.00 for 200 little bags .... it must be quite a special tea... at $ 20.00 a cup+-... wow... If I ever go in your Paradise Islands JC, I sure will try a taste...lol ...if there is any left... Lucien from Canada.

Aloha Lucien, I think the chances for me ever tasting this tea are slim to none, but the story perked my interest. I love tea if it is of very high quality. This particular one is a bit of a stretch for my budget but sounds delightful. We can dream though can't we?

Hi. This doesn't belong in Newsvine Community. Please take care to post to groups appropriately. Thanks!

My humble apologies, Viki, mistake corrected. Thank you for pointing this error out to me. Aloha

Care to elucidate instead of pontificating? If the economy in general is considered "News," then the creation of contrived specialty markets with pricing models at odds with those of more typical markets would seem to be "News" as well.

Correction -- I seem to have misconstrued VBG's comment. As I am not drawn to joining groups, I did not realize that "Newsvine Community" is a group within Newsvine, and not to be confused with Newsvine itself. Think, "Venn Diagrams." In my haste I thought VBG was saying the article should have been restricted to specialized groups rather than being afforded a more general airing. Mea culpa.

I left the group Otherwise as it confuses me. I must stick to groups I understand. This was my blunder and thought the article was interesting and came from the island. I'm part of Newsvine and wanted to share it with the community. My mistake. It wasn't an article to tout anything other than a couple that hit on an idea, worked very hard and made a few buck when the economy is rough on so many. Their hard work paid off and I was congratulating them. So while I wasn't thinking it as "news" and more a "success story" I blew it.

that is insane...aloha js..hope all is well

It is a bit insane isn't it, AmericaRepublic, but I like it just the same. Did you hear about the rare coffee that cats eat and poop? That's just a bit more insane than this I think.
All is well, AmericaRepublic, wishing you the same.

I have to say haven't heard about that..lol..appreciate it js..

Here's a link, AmericanRepublic and I guess monkey's also are in the coffee business. Good grief, I'll settle for Old Estate Kona Coffee, thanks anyway.

It's always good to hear from you too, AmericaRepublic. Want a cup of tea, or how about that interesting coffee. If that's all the coffee that was available I know I'd switch to tea. lol

I don't know..lol...I like my coffee but I do like tea..cold and sweet...but still got to have coffee in the morning..lol..just not that kind..lol

Tucker the Cat and my kitty colony were first on my list in the morning until I caught a clue and set up my espresso machine the night before. Now, my coffee is brewing while I calm the mewing.

Designer tea. And let me guess what would properly go with it -- certainly not lowly scones. Okay, I was just setting up a punch line -- to quote Marie Antoinette, "let them eat cake."
Actually, this is an example of creating market value by means of hype. It is a commodity pricing model which has long flourished in the Art establishment.

Designer tea an art project indeed. This couple needs to be commended for pulling off this deal however. This is one experiment that paid big dividends. I do hope that tea growing becomes popular on the island however as that would be very nice for us. If it tastes as good as the Kona coffee that would be delightful. However, the price is too steep for this couple's endeavor so I'll just have to wait for some else to begin growing tea.

A horticulturist might well set about a project such as this one. But a horticulturist considered simply as a horticulturist would need also to be a business-person who knows his or her way around the game.
Taste, whether we are talking about tea, wine, or contemporary paintings, is a subjective thing. "Market Manias," which can be quantified in terms of objective redistribution of discretionary funds from buyer to seller as a function of something like a perceived endorsement by members of the "trendy set," are not.
- 2 votes
Well, in the US it seems the "trendy sets" set the tone for many. If this tea takes off someday we may find it at an outlet the "little people" can afford. It certainly has happened with many other savory items.

Js, great seed. Hope this tea is good. Let us know if n when you get a chance to have a cup.
Would like to know how it compares to Lip Ton.

Will do, Angela, good buddy. I doubt if I'll live long enough to afford $20 for a cup of tea if it is ever offered here on the island. I don't think flying to Herod's is in my travel plans right now either. lol
