In 1997 an friend of mine begged me to take her along when I visited the island. She thought it was a ghetto and went home after a couple of days. I do believe she thought the island was glitz and booze parties. Of course, booze parties do happen here as we call Kailua Kona "A small drinking village with a fishing problem" but the resorts are out of the way thank goodness. We are just a little, adorable and much loved "Funky" town and I hope it stays this way. The coffee farms, volcano, forests, ocean and beaches are divine along with much much more. If you love the outdoors without meeting masses of tourists, this is the place to play.
