Paranoia and Conspiracy, Is This What Fuels the Media, Politics and Religion?

What is the best mode of getting results for whatever goal one has in mind? Persuasion is good but if the format is based upon bullying another into believing whatever one is using as a focus what is the underlying motivation for this? It may simply be hype, prejudice and bias fueling these goals.

The media loves chaos and drama it seems so it will grab any means to advertise an opinion or belief and run with this. Certain sources are factual but this often is not a concern if the piece will stir frenzy among its readers or listeners. Many media outlets are no better than tabloid hype yet those living in a fearful and paranoid world will grab onto these stories and believe they are gospel. Twisting facts or omitting them seems to be all part of the game.

In politics some politicians seem to have no sound format at all and depend upon smearing their opponent with innuendo and gossip that would embarrass a high school student. They do not seem to have a working consciousness for fairness and are only looking to win in any manner it takes to achieve their goals. Honest politicians get dumped into the same category of being untrustworthy and shysters as those that are untrustworthy and shysters.

As far as religion is concerned those that are faithful to their beliefs and keep this private are constantly battling the Bible Thumpers and control freaks that constantly threaten and malign anyone that doesn’t go along with their particular path. They use fear and paranoia to gather the gullible making religion appear to be a ruse and filled with crooks and liars.

How do we sift through the true and honest to find those that have the entire country in mind for progress and change? Can we weed out the shysters pulling shenanigans to create a country based up honor and equality for all? Granted individually we aren’t going to have everything in life as we wish yet compromise will get us a lot further than fighting among each other and bringing the downfall of a very beautiful country. Perhaps we need to begin questioning anyone that uses hype and dishonorable methods to sway the public.

I am very disturbed by the amount of hypocrisy running rampant in our country. Successful solutions are out there and I'd like to hear your opinions on how we might work toward building our country up not tearing it down further.

I think it is all about emotion projection js. The higher the emotional content of the story the longer it is played out in the media.

So right, Dog, critical thinking, reason and logic with compassion isn't big here in our society or so it seems. Emotional burning passion without thought for damage control is more entertaining I guess.

I agree about the problem, but solutions appear very difficult and long-range. In a Bill Moyers interview with "moral psychologist" Jonathan Haidt, it seemed that the keys were 1., to stop demonizing opponents and creating pressure for civility, and 2., and to support congressional reform to address the corruption by special interest groups that has rewarded politicians for taking more and more extreme views rather than entertaining compromise. http://vimeo.com/36124840

Great post, Earon, thanks. I do think demoralizing, demeaning and maligning others to show strength and power must cease. It has been like a run away train that is certainly headed for disaster. The view by others of our country seems to be that of immature citizens with mean-spirits and the desire to do anything in their power to reach a goal. This does not have to be the case.
